Top Five Internet Security Safeguard Tips
1. Software
This is by far the most important thing on the list, thus it’s place at the top. The first thing, and most important thing you can do is replace internet explorer. There are quite a few browsers that can work for this, my recommendations will be firefox or google chrome. Just this simple step will cut down on your chances of getting a virus by essentially half! The second thing is you’re antivirus software, there are quite a few out there, but I typically recommend one antivirus and one antispyware. The two I would recommend are Kaspersky and malwarebytes.
2. Update, update, update
Updating is also a very important step, and it needs to be done. A lot of people turn off windows update because it’s annoying, according to microsoft almost 30 of people! If you’re operating system isn’t updated, and especially if you’re antivirus isn’t, a virus will get in with no problem.
3. Don’t give out personal info
Most of us are on facebook now, and I’m fairly certain all of us reading this have used email. Even if you’re emailing to someone you know, you should avoid shooting personal info out into the net. Sure, you may not have a keylogger, but he might. Also, on places like facebook avoid putting any personal info.
4. Use Complex Passwords
This doesn’t sound like it’s that important, but you don’t want your password to be even kind of guessable. If the site your password is for says your password is case sensitive. Put one capital, at least 1 number, and make it at least 6 digits.
5. Use hard security questions
This one almost sounds kind of silly, but it is oh so important. If the security question to recover your password is “What’s your favorite band” and I can get that off your facebook page, it’s not going to be too hard to break in! True, it sends it to you’re email, but if your question is equally easy there, then they’re in.
