Information Integrity Knowledge Development - A Critical Requirement (ICMIT2006)
Abstract
Information Integrity (I*I) is dependability and trustworthiness of information and controlling it is a key factor determining strategic business advantage. Its attributes are accuracy, consistency and reliability of information system (IS) and information there from. Businesses have changed a great deal but, given the reality of the data driven technologies and the Net, it is the processes by which they are developed and implemented that have changed the most. Specifically internal as well as external customer aspirations are becoming increasingly local and instant. In a business, which is traditionally geared to work under exogenously generated alternatives and information, need is now to generate continuously and locally (endogenously) alternatives and their information requirements. This dynamic decision making business process model is demanding hitherto not considered informational work activities, which are besieged with uncertainty.

Abstract
This paper introduces the concept and theoretical construct of information integrity and offers an illustrative application in health care. We define information integrity (I*I) with three dimensions: accuracy, consistency, and reliability. This construct goes beyond data and information quality. It is concerned with how information flows in the organization and how it impacts processes and outcomes. The value of this construct is in the modeling of the phenomenon of information integrity. With the explosion of information so do information errors, costing many billions of dollars to the economy and society. Our framework allows for an improved description of information integrity—well beyond data quality—and its impacts on organizations.
Information Integrity Conceptual Framework (December 2002)
Abstract
The value of information is governed by three factors: its usefulness, its usability, and its integrity. Usefulness in information is its suitability to purpose. Usability of information concerns its form and accessibility. Information integrity -- often erroneously confused with data quality – is directly concerned with the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of information with its supporting processes and systems. While all three dimensions of information value are important, the one most critical to good decision-making and the one over which we tend to have the least control is information integrity. This paper provides an overview of a framework for the concepts and measures of information integrity (I*I).

Abstract
With unprecedented advances in information technologies and with shared data environments, organizations and individuals are increasingly concerned with capture, use and control of growing, complex and diversified volumes of data. However such databases are invariably affected by data errors; in turn requiring critical attention to the question of impact of data defects on the working of information processing systems. The paper submits that this essentially is the question of researching methods for data repairs and for enhancing data integrity of information systems. With this objective, the paper surveys research effort in Information Integrity starting from early studies in the area of Electronic Data Processing on data errors and Svanks’ suggestions for research thrust in areas of data defects and data repair and Integrity Analysis Methodology. This is followed by survey of researches in the areas of Accounting, Data Quality attributes and Total Data Quality Management and Technology. Based on this research survey, the paper in the end presents suggestions for research initiatives in Information Integrity in terms of : Defining Information Integrity, Integrity attributes - Objective and Subjective, Designing of Information Systems with Integrity measures, Systems Technologies for Information Integrity and other research areas in terms of Integrity Management.
